Monico named regional director for Ohio newspapers

Veteran newspaper executive Nickolas Monico has been named publisher of the Delaware Gazette and regional director for Ohio newspapers. The announcement was made Tuesday, March 17, 2015 by Ralph Martin, CEO of Civitas Media, the newspaper’s parent company.

Monico will lead all Ohio Civitas operations except Lima, Portsmouth, Georgetown, West Union, Gallipolis, Ripley and Pomeroy.

As part of the company’s restructuring, he replaces John Clark who stepped down to explore other opportunities.

“Nick and I have worked together on several occasions, Martin said. “He has the deep, rich experience and leadership we need to align our business for future success.”

Monico has an extensive background in media, holding senior management positions in several organizations. Prior to joining Civitas Media, he was vice president of Community Publishing at GateHouse Media overseeing dailies, weeklies and shoppers in 17 states. He served as vice president/chief operating office and chief strategic officer of Trib Total Media in Pittsburgh, Pa., and was president of Gannett’s Media Network of central Ohio. He has won several awards for performance and editorial excellence during his career.

Monico also spent many years in senior leadership at Thomson Newspapers as COO of the Chicago Division and the Midwest Division that comprised more than 50 newspapers in 14 states. He is a past board member of the Illinois Press Association and Inland Press Association.

Nick and his wife Marcia reside in Gahanna, Ohio and he will operate out of the Delaware (Ohio) Gazette office.
