Twenty-three Civitas Media journalists from eight Ohio newspapers won 43 awards Sunday, May 18, during the Ohio APME Newspaper Awards banquet.

It was a big day for the Troy Daily News, which won 12 awards, including five first-place honors and a second place in General Excellence. David Fong had six awards – three first-place honors, a second-place and two third-place. The Troy Sports section, managed by Fong, was voted the top Sports section. Troy competes in Division I, which consists of newspapers with a daily circulation up to 7,900.
The Lima News also had a big day, winning 22 awards in Division IV, which includes newspapers with a circulation of 25,000 to 74,999. Craig Orosz won seven awards and the newspaper had a top three finish in General Excellence. It marked the eighth straight year Lima has won 20 or more AP awards and the 11th time in the last 13 years it placed in general excellence.
Civitas won first-place honors in both DivisionsI and IV for multi-media coverage with Lora Abernathy winning in Division I and the team of David Trinko and Heather Rutz winning in Division IV.
