Chaffin named Madison Press editor

Ohio journalist Andrea Chaffin has been named editor/content manager at the Madison Press in London, Ohio. The announcement was made Wednesday, April 30 by Jim Lawitz, director of content for Civitas Media, the newspaper’s parent company.

“We’re pleased to have her lead our talented newsroom in London,” Lawitz said. “Andrea’s passion and commitment to journalism will translate into a better newspaper and more robust digital platform presence”

Chaffin has been with the company’s sister newspaper, the Wilmington News Journal in nearby Clinton County for the past three years. In addition to covering government, education, politics and business, she has assisted in the daily management of the news team during vacations and holidays.

“I am thrilled to take on this new position at The Madison Press,” Chaffin said. “I’m looking forward to getting to know the community in which I live, and representing the newspaper within it.”

Chaffin will also oversee the Plain City Advocate and the Mt. Sterling Tribune.

“We feel really confident Andrea will succeed and we couldn’t be happier to have found someone who lives in the community and already knows the issues important to Madison County,” said Joshua Byers, Chaffin’s immediate supervisor and regional content director for Ohio.

Chaffin has earned two first-place awards from the Associated Press for her work as an investigative reporter and feature writer. A graduate of The Ohio State University, Chaffin earned degrees in public affairs journalism and political science.

She is a graduate of Northeastern High School in Clark County. Prior to joining Civitas Media, Chaffin worked in the newsroom of the Springfield News-Sun.

Chaffin said feedback and outreach will be a key proponent of the Press going forward.

“There is nothing more important to the health and direction of a newspaper than feedback from readers,” Chaffin said, adding she will be looking at ways to improve the Press’ social media offerings. “In today’s world there are so many different ways to tell stories that resonate with our audience.”
A native of South Vienna, Chaffin has resided in Madison County for the last seven years with her fiance, Danny.
