Nathan DiBagno has been named publisher of The Mount Airy News and assistant regional director for the Carolinas’ Division Northern Region for Civitas Media. DiBagno’s career has been devoted to the newspaper industry, working in advertising, news, and circulation. He previously worked in several roles, including regional sales director, general manager, advertising manager, and editor. He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Bob Jones University and an MBA from North Greenville University.
He and his wife Elizabeth have three children: Jaden, Katie, and Audrey. DiBagno enjoys serving in the community as an ambassador with The Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce and as a Rotarian on the Mount Airy Rotary Club.
Bob Scanlon has been named publisher of The Newberry Observer and assistant regional director for the Carolinas’ Division South Carolina Region for Civitas Media. Bob has been serving as group business development manager for this area since July 2014. Prior to his time with Civitas Media, he was the regional advertising director for the Florence (S.C.) Morning News group and previously the regional advertising director for the Spartanburg (S.C.) Herald Journal. Bob has held regional and corporate advertising positions for Freedom Communications and Media General. He is active in his church and community organizations including the Newberry Rotary Club and area chambers of commerce offices.
Sherry Matthews has been named publisher and editor of The Sampson Independent. Sherry is a native of Sampson County, and a nearly 23-year veteran with The Sampson Independent, having returned to her hometown newspaper in June 1992 and taking the helm as editor in 1994. She was named general manager in 2003 and editor/community relations manager in 2012. She began her newspaper career in 1982 and has worked for weeklies, bi-weeklies and dailies in North and South Carolina since that time.
She has won four N.C. Press Awards over that period of time. Sherry is deeply immersed in her community, serving as a Rotarian, as a member of the Sampson Community College Foundation, as well as a member of the Fitness Renaissance Board of Directors and the United Way. She is a member of Snow Hill Free Will Baptist Church.

Althea Simpson has been named general manager and media director for The Laurinburg Exchange in Laurinburg, N.C.
Judy Cagle has been named general manager and media director for the Richmond County Daily Journal in Rockingham, N.C, The Anson Record in Wadesboro, N.C. and The Cheraw Chronicle in Cheraw, S.C.
Holly Lamm has been named general manager and media director for The Tribune in Elkin, N.C. and The Yadkin Ripple in Yadkinville, N.C.
Teresa Laws has been named general manager and media director for the Jefferson Post in Jefferson, N.C.
Ed Knight has been named the Carolinas’ regional circulation director.
Robin Walker has been named regional media director for the central N.C. properties.
